When a new Thunderstruck slot hits the shelves, we all sit up and take notice. And that’s because this franchise has released some of the most popular slots around, with Microgaming’s 2010 Thunderstruck 2 slot game being a case in point.

This newer release was designed by Stormcraft Studios, part of the Games Global Group. On the whole, this game gets a big thumbs up from us, with one or two reservations (see below).

Slot Facts

The Thunderstruck Stormchaser slot is a 5 reel and 4 row game with 1024 Ways to Win and a maximum win of 10,000x your stake. This is a highly volatile slot, so watch out: it might go through some quiet patches. But when it kicks into gear, you can see some nice runs.

The RTP is 96.1% but shop around as this can vary by casino. It’s highly loaded with features including Avalanche wins, a Bonus wheel, Wilds with Multipliers, Random Rewards, Free Spins with Multipliers, Multipliers, Scatters, Stacks and Wilds.

Look and Feel

This is a gorgeous looking game, there’s no denying. Stormcraft have gone to town on the visuals and sound, and this slot looks and feels like they have spent some serious design hours and money on it.

On the reels you’ll see Thor who’s Wild (he’s looking very Marvel familiar I must say) who is searching for his father’s sacred spear: Gungnir, and who is generally trying to take his place on the golden throne of Asgard.

Thyra, the goddess of Wildstorms also is a key character. She’s Thor’s sister, the one with the purple hair and the evil stare. She comes to life in the Wildstorm feature in some fantasic visuals (more details on that below).

Thunderstruck Stormchaser is fully loaded with Rolling Reels which trigger on each Every Ways Win. You’ll have played this feature before, I am sure (in Gonzo’s Quest for example?).

Anyway, winning symbols disappear and make way for new symbols to roll in, so that you can land multiple consecutive wins if you are lucky.

Rolling Reels are present in both the base game and the free spins game.

Go Forth and Multiply
Then there are the multiplier symbols which can appear in base game and the free spins bonus. These can award a win multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 15x or even 20x. The displayed multipliers are added together and boost the total win at the end of a spin.

Wildstorm
Just like Thunderstruck 2 (one of our all time faves), the newer Stormcraft game, this slot comes with a Wildstorm Feature which can set off at random in the base game. You’ll get a free spin and a guaranteed Wildstorm feature.

The Wildstorm can turn up to 5 reels wild which is the key to triggering that big 10,000x jackpot on this game. this is our favourite feature of the game. Thyra (Thor’s Sister floats to the left of the screen in her cool dress and screams in the Wild Reels. Fantastic!

Symbols

Thor is Wild and is the highest payer, followed by his sister Thyra, some ravens, the throne Hlidskjalf, Asgard, Yggdrasill, the world tree and Ragnarok. Then you are into the A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 playing card symbols on runes in Norse lettering.

Buy Feature.
In some jurisdictions (not the UK), you can buy into the free spins by purchasing 3, 4 or 5 scatters. Careful though, as this will set you back 50x your current bet. Is it worth it? Well, it’s expensive. Set your bet low to try it out.

Free Spins Bonus

If you manage to get 3 or more scatters (Thor’s hammer, the Mjölnir) you will trigger the free spins which takes you to the Free Spins Wheel. You will need to spin the wheel to win free spins and a starting multiplier.

The multiplier amount and the number of spins goes up the more scatters you land.

Summary

Where the Thunderstruck Stormchaser slot does impress is in the graphics and sound department. Stormcraft have really nailed this side of things. This is another level to previous Thunderstruck slots: very Hollywood.

There is plenty going on with Rolling Reels, Win Multipliers and it’s great to see the Wildstorm feature again as this is a personal favourite. which we’ve seen before in previous releases.

The Free Spins in the Wheel is unique to the franchise : you can kick off with up to 25 free spins with a 12x multiplier, not a bad haul to begin with and you can re-trigger the spins.

With a 10,000x max win, this game is no slouch, but you will see bigger top wins in Thunderstruck 2 or even Thunderstruck Wild Lightning. But overall, this is great release that is worthy of the franchise, let’s give credit where credit is due. Nice job, Stormcraft!
