Now come on let’s face it, whose interest level doesn’t perk up when you hear that slot title? Playtech’s Cowboys and Aliens slot is too intriguing to miss.
This is a game that pits you and a cast of other tough nuts as the last hope in town, well on this planet anyway. It’s set in a dusty Wild West town where the cowboys of the title are out to save the world from a band of menacing aliens. What a combo!
Look and Feel
This game from Playtech- the people behind the Top Trumps Celebs slot – looks like a comic book. The styling is graphic novel with a hand-drawn look and feel and some great retro touches.
In the background there’s a twanging guitar and harmonica getting us ready for the battle we’re about to stage on the reels.
Cowboys and Aliens Game Play
Cowboys and Aliens is a five reel, 3 rows and 9 pay-line slot. If you want more pay-lines, head to something like the Ace Ventura Pet Detective slot, or Gladiator.
The reel set is a bleached out main street in the middle of the desert which has already seen a high noon battle or two, with broken woodwork and debris laying around.
The icons are animated graphics from the comic adventure book. The important icons are the main cowboy character (he look like he’d appreciate our Golden Mane slot machine), a preacher man, a cowgirl, and a Native American- the exception a scary green-faced alien. The other icons are the A through 10 of the card pack.
The Wild is a fiery alien spacecraft and the Scatter is the game’s logo. The Bonus icon is an alien riding a small hovering machine.
Spin your Way to Save the World
If you get 3 of the Scatter icons, the game logo, you will get 8 free spins. These bonus spins add a little sweetener to the end of the world; each spin adds a Wild to the mix, increasing the odds of a win.
Shooting those Aliens
If you can grab the Bonus icon on reels 1 and 5 you trigger the Alien Attack Bonus, this means you get your moment to face off those aliens.
You choose which of 3 heroes you use to do battle with 3 Martians based on the skills, weapon and ammo of your character of choice.
Alien Weapon Feature
There’s one more treat in store. Watch out for the Alien Weapon Feature. In this mode an alien weapon icon may turn up on reel 1. When this appears you’ll notice that the weapon picks a number 1-4 on the gun’s barrel. This number of shots will then take out random symbols on the reels 2-5 (not the Wild or Scatter) turning those spots into Wilds.

Conclusion
I loved the comic book look and feel. The Cowboys and Aliens slot makes a good old slot time shoot ’em up. I’ll be back to take on the bad green guys!
