I love a good ole’ fashioned fruity machine and Fruit Spin gives us a taste of that yesteryear fun with a fruity themed update bringing a whole garden of colour and fun to the slot before you’ve even started on the bounty of bonus features on offer. Fruit is also a good subject for a slot of course, even in Hawaiian ones like the Aloha Slot, and this game has baskets of the stuff!
Would I be able to mix up a delectable cocktail of free spins, lucky wheels and stacked symbols with NetEnt’s fruity addition or would this end up being a plum duff?
Look and feel
I confess I was a bit disappointed by the background of play, the reels are just set against a pretty boring pattern, but this at least doesn’t distract from the reel spin. It’s no design classic like the Butterfly Staxx slot or Guns ‘n Roses, but I guess that is the idea- this is a back to basics traditional slot, but powered with all the modern gizmos.
The icons are medium quality graphics which bring on the fruit machine nostalgia, with a few actual jewel pimped fruit to keep things healthy!
The sounds that keep the spin upbeat are a rhythmic series of claps and electronic bleeps which bring on the old arcade game vibe. They’re a good reflection of this game’s bright and breezy atmosphere.
Fruit Spin is a four row, five reel and 40 paylines slot to bring out your inner fruit bat! That’s quite a few more lines than other games they do such as Asgardian Stones– so that should give you a clue as to the volatility of this game. We mark it down as low variance, so expect more frequent (but smaller) wins, but remember- nothing is guaranteed!
The high value icons are those old pals from the fruit machines of old, the 7 Bar icon, followed by 3 gold Bar signs, a double silver Bar sign and of course a single bronze Bar icon.
The poor cousins of the icons are the bejewelled fruit of our Fruit spin and some of these are familiar faces from the fruities including a double cherry, an orange, raspberry, lime and grapes.
During Fruit Spin all the standard icons of play can become stacked on the reels which means more lucrative play for you.
Fruit Spins’ Wild is the word “Wild” in a bright green jewel and this substitutes for all icons except the Scatter which is the word “Scatter” plastered on a red and pink gemstone. During the free spins feature, the Wild is stacked making it 3 reels wide and high and the Scatter also appears in the base and features games as a 3×3 formation.
Wheely good fun
The main event is the free spinning Lucky Wheel. If Lady Luck is smiling on you then land a row of 3 Scatters you will trigger the generous Lucky Wheel feature. One row of Scatters, will start you off with one free spin but if you get 2 or 3 rows then you are awarded 6 or 9 free spins respectively.
Each Scatter secures you an extra spin on those three wheels and you take each free spin on a new wheel and these in turn will add to your stash of cash or give you a free spin gem for each one of the wheels.
To take this feature to the next level, be a magpie and collect three pinky gems to trigger 5 free spins, each gem gives you a starting spin, this mode can also be re-triggered, making for more wins and a fruity cocktail of chances to score big.
I like that Fruit Spin is a hybrid between an old fashioned fruity and a slot with a tangy feature on offer. The Free Wheel feature makes for an interesting game and its slightly basic layout had me focused on the slot action but this wasn’t a lucrative game for me- but you might be a master in the art of the fruit spin and be able to make a money making smoothie out of this game.
