Age of Egypt
Now much as I love a slot game with all the drama and sophistication of an ancient Egyptian themed slot, I had mixed feelings preparing myself to play Playtech’s addition, the super crowded genre of games, so was I going to take to the slots and master the Ancients’ papyrus and all, or was it going to be a bit more a damp dip in the Nile? I took to the trust reels to find out what was in store for me! Playtech are the creator of some of our favourites like their Irish Luck slot game so we were expecting big thing.
Look and feel
There’s a certain charm to the styling of the Age of Egypt, the graphics are high-quality, particularly those of the icons but there’s also simplicity to the look of the game and a slightly 80s vibe. Here the reels are set against an early evening, with a blue and pink cloudy sky over the desert sands and a group of pyramids. If you like an Egyptian theme, you should also try out the Pharoah’s Treasure slot by the way- another game by Playtech.
The background music is rather enticing and hypnotic traditional pipes combined with electronic sounds of play.
Age of Egypt is a 3 rows, 5 reel and 20 pay-lines journey into the distant past, putting it in the same configuration as other Playtech games like the Sacred Stones slot machine and others.
The elaborate high value icons of the game are a cracked pottery eye of Rah-a traditional symbol of protection, a fancy statue of a falcon, the symbol of the god Horus and then there’s the beloved scarab beetle made of gems. The lower value icons are the Ace through ten of the card deck made to look like jewels.
The game’s Wild is a vision of gold with a statue of Tutankhamun’s head and this icon subs for all icons except the Scatter and Bonus, (if you’re lucky enough to land five of this sparkly icon, you’ll be in line for a 10,000 coin reward!). The Scatter is Queen Cleopatra (who’s gone rather heavy on the eye-liner!). The scary of the pack is undoubtedly the game’s Bonus, a dog-headed god Anubis staring out at you from his statue- he looks more deadly than bonus!
Off the leash!
The Anubis bonus fun is triggered by landing 3 or more of those spooky Bonus icons in a row from left to right across a payline. Now you’ll be transported to the glitzy tomb of Anubis to pick from a selection of gold-wrapped mummies to try to reveal money prizes- you get as many chances to pick as the number of Anubis heads that triggered the mode.
The treasure of the Pharaohs
The other side game that’s well worth taking a spin back in time for is the Royal Treasury Free Games. Just land 3 of our mascarared friend, the Cleopatra Scatter, and you’ll activate a generous ten free spins. If you get lucky in this mode you’ll get a welcome x3 multiplier. These ancients were a generous bunch, land an additional 3 Scatters and you trigger more spins- indefinitely or better still, you can activate the Anubis Bonus feature so you can really double up on your dosh!
Age of Egypt it turns out is rather a swish addition to the wealth of games in the ancient genre but in terms of its slightly retro vibe and chilled out atmosphere, the game won’t set the world on fire- it’s just a solid slot that has a rather nice multiplier to keep you interested. Worth a visit for fans of the ancient Egyptian slot genre.
