The Fortunium slot is Microgaming’s steam-punk styled slot set in a super wealthy city of the game’s title. Here you accompany two adventurers as they gallivant through the city to stir it up and just like you, attempt to join the inhabitants of the city in their money making.

Look and feel

This game has some good looks to offer- after all Steam-punks aren’t short of a look- think clockwork, corsetry and hot air balloons!

The elaborate metal frame to the reels is set against a Victorian cityscape on steroids- after all in this imaginary time there are old and futuristic elements combined to create a magical place to play, but with gilded rooftops and buildings- Fortunium is a city of great wealth. This is a slick piece of design from Microgaming- compare it to older games like the Fluffy Favourites slot and you will see what we mean!

The background sound is soaring and suggests adventure which is exactly where this game is trying to take you.

Fortunium is a beast of a slot game with 5 reels and 5 rows in motion (which is even chunkier than the Heartburst slot with its quadruple rows) with the possible 40 pay lines up for grabs across all devices. This is definitely one of Microgaming’s power games along with the Moby Dick Slot and their Jurassic Park titles.

The high value icons are two elaborately clad characters at the centre of the action, Victoria and Maximilian, and they come with a useful gimmick, they can become stacked taking over a whole reel- Kerching!

Then there’s a treasure trove, a golden hot air balloon, and an odd mechanical gun. The lower value icons of play are the brightly coloured suits of the card deck.
The game’s Wild is a golden bank vault door with a “W” across it, and this substitutes for all icons except the Scatter which is a gold-framed emerald jewel.

Mystery ahoy!

At random a mystery icon, a golden question mark, may land on the reels and can be stacked, taking over a whole reel. When it lands it then transforms to reveal any icon including a Wild (but excluding the Scatter.) This is a welcome gift as it can make for more valuable winning combos.

Boost your win

On the left of the reels is a Win Booster button and this will increase your stake, but the trade-off is that more Mystery icons will be added to the reels and these will only reveal high value icons or Wilds to bring you bigger bucks.

Free spins

An accessible three or more Scatters across the reels with activate Fortunium’s Free Spins mode. Once this activates it delivers you skyward, as the reels are transported literally into the clouds for this part of the game. If you’re feeling lucky and able to land further green jewel Scatters then each of these will gift you a welcome extra spin on the reels.
The more Scatters that activated the Free Spins the more Mystery icons, which could be a whole stacked reel, will appear. 5 Scatters gifts you a three mystery reels which in turn has massive money making potential- there’s huge potential multiplier up for grabs if Lady Luck has given you three mystery reels to cash in on.

A whole lot of imagination has gone into creating a glorious steam-punk world and I loved it.

The game has been created with flair by Microgaming’s ideas, like the Win Booster and the big cash potential of the Free Spins game which lifts the money making element of Fortunium above the ordinary into the rather extraordinary.
