The Rift is a 5 reel, 3 row and 17 pay-line slot with a mystical feel to it – it’s like a Steam Punk Well of Wonders slot that’s heading into a new space time continuum. Say what?
This is a 5 reel and 3 row online slot with 17 pay-lines. It’s a medium to high variance slot with a maximum win of 815x your bet.
The Return to Player is 96.3% and the game was launched in 2016.
Thunderkick’s The Rift Slot finds us in mystical mode, saving the world from the void. As a fan of the mysterious, I loved the look and feel of this strange looking and unsettling slot and couldn’t wait to give it a spin.
We’re a big fan of Thunderkick games (try the Luchadora slot or Babushkas and you’ll see what we mean). The Rift is no exception.
Look and Feel
You know you’re in uncharted territory when you see the reels of the slot floating frameless and mysteriously above a damp, dark and misty cobbled street. The Rift of the game’s title is a scary void, yawning open in front of the reels. Behind the main action is a slimy brick wall covered in a complex symbol- what can it all mean?
You are here to save the day, naturally! You need to stop the world’s magical items from being drawn into that scary rift while there is still time to save the world.
Not only does the Rift look very smart graphically but it also comes with some sweet features to keep entertainment levels high too, including Wilds, sticky Wilds and free spins- hooray! It’s got all the visual effects of the Fruit Warp slot but with extra gizmos!
The soundtrack of play is pretty eerie with strange chimes and rattling set to a tension building electronic beat and the standard electronic beeps during play.
The Rift Game Play
The Rift sets a strange and menacing tone before you’ve spun the first reel. The icons tell you you’re certainly not in an ordinary dimension anymore.
The high value icons are a chained magical book, a golden pocket watch, a purple squid monster and a green potion bottle. The lower value icons are four coins ranging from gold right down to copper.
The Rift’s Wild is the word Wild in pink and this substitutes for all others symbols.
Pros and Cons
Great Graphics
You can re-trigger the free spins in the bonus
The Rift Spin mode is cool with Sticky Wilds
Only 17 pay-lines – pretty high variance.
Bonus Time
The Scatter symbol is the word Rift on a red coin; if you get 2 of these anywhere across the reels then you win the Rift Spin and get a maximum of 3 extra Wilds added to the reels.
The joy of this mode is that any Wilds that land on non-winning line get all sticky for a spin or become part of a winning combo- my favourite!
If you can lure 3 or more of these Scatter symbols onto the reels then you get the free spins.
Free Spins
10, 15 or 20 free spins are up for grabs in this mode, depending on how many have landed to trigger the feature (3, 4 or 5). If your magnetism can attract more Scatter symbols in the bonus you can gain 5 further spins , and what’s more you move up the Rift metre (the strange symbol on the slimy wall behind the reels) gaining Wilds and free spins as you progress.
Summary
The Rift is a fun romp if you like a bit of an atmospheric slot with a few extras thrown in for good measure. It has to be said that the game’s high-end graphics and spacious lay out does provide a different look and feel.
I will be coming back to The Rift again even if it’s to find out where my odd socks and TV control disappeared to!
According to Thunderkick, the designers, the rift is a hole in spacetime in a dingy back alley of a town, feeding on the world’s magical artifacts. You collect need to get them before they get sucked through! Well, it looks nice, never mind about the back story.
